Bail Set For Driver In Endymion Crash

Bail has been set at $125,000 for the Paradis man charged in the crash along the Endymion Parade route Saturday night that injured 32 persons.

25-year-old Neilson Rizzuto is charged with two counts of first-degree negligent injury, hit and run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Authorities say Rizzuto's blood alcohol level was nearly 3 times the legal limit when he underwent testing about two hours after the crash.

23 persons were taken to seven hospitals after Rizzuto's truck plowed into parade spectators on North Carrollton Avenue at Orleans Avenue.

If he is released from jail, a magistrate says he will be placed under house arrest and be required to wear an ankle monitor.

The counts of first-degree negligent injury were filed against him in connection with injuries sustained by a woman who suffered a lacerated liver and other internal injuries, and by NOPD Officer Michell Woodfork who sustained injuries to a leg, knee and shoulder.  Both women remained hospitalized on Sunday and were listed in stable condition.

The victims ranged in age from 1-year-old to their 50's.
