Ex-Teacher Acquitted In JP Sex-with-Student Trial

A former Destrehan High School teacher who pleaded guilty in St. Charles Parish to an obscenity charge for having sex with a 16-year-old male student has been acquitted of two counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile in Jefferson Parish.

Judge Danyelle Taylor found that there wasn't enough evidence to show that Shelley Dufresne committed a crime in the parish.

Prosecutors had argued that Dufresne and the boy had sex in Metairie and in Kenner in 2014.

Taylor said she found the credibility of the student, who is now 19, lacking.  She said he made "inconsistent and factually inaccurate statements" during his testimony.
