Orleans Parish Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Rouse is no longer pursuing a re-election bid.
In a statement released yesterday, he said he wants to focus his attention on the city's mental health crisis.
The decision will see Dr. Dwight McKenna succeed Rouse when his term expires.
The 75-year-old McKenna is a former Orleans Parish School Board member who served nine months in a federal lockup for tax evasion.
