Governor Lambasts Proposed Budget Bill

Torrential Rains Bring Historic Floods To Southern Louisiana

Governor John Bel Edward isn't mincing words in criticism of a budget bill approved by the state's House Appropriations Committee yesterday.

He says the legislation that fully funds TOPS "isn't worth the paper it's printed on" since it doesn't address the state's other pressing needs including health care, higher education and medical schools in New Orleans and Shreveport.

The state is less than three months away from a new fiscal year and a $650 million shortfall in revenue due to expiring taxes.
