A second defendant in the June 2015 killing of a Des Allemands woman who allegedly refused to have sex with him is facing a mandatory life sentence after being convicted last night by a jury in New Orleans.

The panel found 30-year-old Troy Varnado guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors alleged that Varnado and Thayon Sansom brutally beat Lindsay Nichols, stuffed her body in the trunk of her car, shot her and then set the vehicle on fire near the former location of Six Flags.

Sansom, who took the stand at Varnado's trial but refused to answer any questions, was sentenced earlier to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter, kidnapping and other charges.
