If the Louisiana Senate has its way, voters will not decide whether the death penalty should be abolished.

The legislation died on the floor of the chamber yesterday afternoon. The vote against it was 13 to 25.

If it had eventually won final legislative approval, voters would have cast ballots in November of next year on a constitutional amendment that would determine the death penalty's fate in Louisiana.
