Five Mardi Gras dance troupes say they will not take part in upcoming Mystic Krewe of Nyx parades after a controversial social media post made by Nyx captain Julie Lea.

Krewe de Lune, the Cosmonaughties, the Sirens, the Muff-a-lottas and the Pussyfooters announced yesterday that they would bow out of Nyx.

In a letter to Nyx members, the women of Pussyfooters vowed to quit Nyx in solidarity with the members and officers who have resigned.

The Muff-a-lottas dance group also wrote an open letter, saying that they are parting ways with the krewe due to the "insensitive and offensive" social media post.

Lea's "All Lives Matter" post came as protests provoked by the death of Floyd, a black man, who was in the custody of four Minneapolis police officers, rippled across the country.
