State Passes Anti-Abortion Amendment, Local Voters Approve Sports Betting

Louisiana voters are approving the addition of new language to the state's constitution that declares there is no right to have an abortion.

Unofficial election results show the amendment passing with an overwhelming 62% of the vote and would be mostly symbolic unless the U.S. Supreme Court outlaws abortion on the federal level.

In another symbolic move, voters in multiple parishes, including in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas, approved sports betting.

For betting to go into effect in those parishes, the state would still need to create new laws and regulations before bets could be placed.
