City officials say Mardi Gras parades will not be allowed next year.

Spokesman Beau Tidwell said Tuesday parades of any kind will not be permitted because they have proven to be COVID-19 super spreader events, and added that the city will not allow gatherings of more than 250 people but says they will work with krewes to find ways to move forward under the guidelines.

Officials say each krewe has until December 5 to submit their plans on how they will follow the mandated regulations for 2021.

This will mark the first time Mardi Gras in New Orleans will be without parades since the police strike of 1979.
