A proposed state law would put an end to the practice of euthanizing healthy animals that haven't been adopted.

Louisiana has the nation's fifth-highest number of euthanasia deaths in animal shelters.

Best Friends Animal Society says 30%t of the state's shelters have a no-kill policy, and there's an overall 70% save rate.

In the 2021 session, the legislature passed a resolution to make Louisiana a no-kill state by the end of 2025.
