Ochsner Health, the state's largest health care system, says the omicron surge seems to be peaking in some parts of Louisiana.
Officials say the variant peaked at Ochsner's hospitals in New Orleans two weeks ago.
As of last count, there are 644 coronavirus patients in Ochsner hospitals, and nearly 700 staffers who are quarantined.
The system says booster shots are effective at preventing hospitalization even in people with a breakthrough infection.
Doctors recommend vaccinations for kids five and up before the start of carnival season.
