Two New Orleans officials are backing the sheriff's decision to book hotel rooms for some staffers.

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said yesterday she booked the rooms during Mardi Gras because the staffers were providing security into the overnight hours and had to be back on duty just two hours later.

City Councilmembers Lesli Harris and Freddie King are publicly supporting Hutson.

King says Hutson did the right thing and it shows care and concern for the community.

Hutson says a private company in Vermilion Parish has agreed to pick up the million dollar tab for the hotel rooms.
