The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans is making preparations ahead of the saltwater intrusion expected in the city next month.

Ron Spooner, the interim general superintendent of SWBNO, said they are looking at diluting the saltwater with freshwater that would be imported upstream of the saltwater wedge

Salt, however, could also cause corrosion and leaks to the city's old pipes, potentially causing great damage.
