The woman chosen by Mayor LaToya Cantrell to serve as the superintendent of New Orleans police is laying out her plans for the position.

Anne Kirkpatrick says violent crime in the city is down at least 20 percent lately, and she intends to get the community involved to reduce it further.

Kirkpatrick says recruiting and retaining more NOPD officers is one of her top priorities, along with improved morale.

Kirkpatrick faces a City Council confirmation hearing a week from Wednesday, though a final vote isn't expected until a later meeting.
