Angel Reese with the National Championship-winning LSU women's basketball team is the Sporting News Athlete of the Year.
LSU officials announced on Tuesday morning that Reese had won the award along with Iowa's Caitlin Clark.
Sporting News has given the honor over the years to such world-class athletes as Larry Bird, Nolan Ryan, Michael Jordan, Cal Ripken, Tom Brady, and LeBron James.
Reese and Clark are only the second and third women to win the award, joining Jackie Joyner-Kersee in 1988.
