The Sewerage & Water Board says an antiquated turbine lost pumping power on Saturday night, contributing to street flooding in New Orleans.

Turbine 4 was built in 1915, and was offline during the city's December flood.

A mechanical problem on Saturday night triggered safeguards that shut down the turbine to prevent major damage.

Officials say the turbine should be repaired within two weeks.

But the goal is to install a new power substation and new turbines by the middle of next year.
